Pongal

Pongal

Hello everyone and welcome back to see what's cooking with Malaysia Treats! Today we got you guys some more Indian food and I'll give you a hint of this food, it's big but now squishy. I'll tell you the answer it is called Pongal. Ah yes, Pongal is one of the Indian traditional food and I know that some of you guys may had heard about it. So let's take our spoons and see the recipes below:

Ingredients:

  • 1kg normal rice
  • 750kg vellam (acts like gula melaka but only colour yellow, can be found in Indian shops)
  • 100kg cashews
  • Cardamom
  • 50gm kacang dhal hijau (soaked until soft)
  • 3 pieces dry chili (not yet cut)
  • 50gm raisins
  • 100gm minyak sapi
  • 500ml fresh cow milk
  • 2,000ml water

Method:

  1. First boil the water in the pot. Once it is warm enough add in the rice and cook it.
  2. when the rice is half-cooked, add in vellam and stir. When the rice is somewhat crushed, add in cardamom, cow milk and kacang dhal hijau.cook until it is thick.
  3. After that, you can lift it out and put it on a plate, put it aside.
  4. Heat up the minyak sapi and start frying the cashews! Ooh, this reminds me of a Viral Song. Now where was we? Not to forget that you must also fry the raisins and the dry chili.
  5. After that, you can place it on the pongal that we had made earlier, serve!

Okay great job! We just created ourselves some delighful Indian and that is Pongal! Do not forget to like us on our Facebook page. Till the next post, keep cooking with Malaysia Treats!
